Description

ByteDance DeerFlow before commit 2176b2b contains a path traversal and arbitrary file write vulnerability in bootstrap-mode custom-agent creation where the agent name validation is bypassed. Attackers can supply traversal-style values or absolute paths as the agent name to influence directory creation and write files outside the intended custom-agent directory, potentially achieving arbitrary file write on the system subject to filesystem permissions.

How this vulnerability can be exploited

This issue can be reached over the network, attack complexity is low, an attacker needs low-level privileges on the target. No user interaction is required. The scope is unchanged, so the impact stays within the vulnerable component. Rated impact: confidentiality none, integrity low, availability high.

Weakness class

CVE-2026-40518 is classified as CWE-22: Path Traversal. A file path built from user input is not confined to the intended directory, letting an attacker reach files elsewhere on the filesystem.
