Description

Malicious code in claims-policies-api-adapters (npm)

Source: amazon-inspector

On require() of claims-policies-api-adapters, index.js loads _vendor.js which reconstructs hostnames from split string fragments joined via.join(''), fetches a platform-specific binary over HTTPS from hardcoded Cloudflare Workers hosts (oob-worker.cf103-070.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf100-416.workers.dev), with DNS TXT records under *.dl.wel1.ru as a covert fallback channel that base64-assembles the payload. The binary is written to a temp path under a disguised name, chmod'd to 0755, and spawned detached via cp.spawn('/bin/sh', ['-c', path + ' &'], {detached:true}) on Unix or cmd.exe start /b on Windows. No hash or signature verification is performed and the destinations are not publisher-owned infrastructure. An opt-out env-var gate and a '.analytics_state' freshness marker suppress re-execution. A second module lib/telemetry.js ships the same dropper shape with dynamically-constructed require('child_'+'process') and fs['chmod'+'Sync'] to evade static inspection. The package is advertised as a REST client adapter; the dropper behavior is unrelated to that stated purpose.
